The Story of 'METAMORPHISM: YULEM'
“I work with materials not only as physical entities, but also as carriers of past, present and future narratives. Exploring geology and archaeology of the future, I have created a new hybrid matter, mimicking a combination of human activity and natural forces.”
“By creating ‘altars’ which combine traditional clay with my own anthropogenic clay-like material, Lithoplast, I try and provoke conversation around our changing relationship with materials. Lithoplast is a composite material made up of three waste streams; discarded plastic, stone from coal mining and marble dust from masonry. Whilst historically we depended on earth’s natural materials, we are now reliant on human-made matter. This project aims to reconnect us to the natural origins and transformative journeys of our material resources. These altars are the physical juxtaposition of old and new; natural and mutated matter.”
